Kakano - Levin East School.
Over 4 sessions, I taught each of the Elements of dance (in line with the NZC). Students had opportunities to engage with one another, with props and the space around them. These sessions were a great introduction to dance and movement in general, perfect for junior to middle primary. |

This dance was choreographed by myself and one of my peers while in my final year of my degree. We spent 1.5 hours, one day a week for 6 weeks in the classroom working in collaboration with the students to create a movement piece that represented the immigration to Aotearoa, "the coming together of a multicultural nation". We used many techniques to inspire the movements, including having the students bring an item from their home (in New Zealand or from where their parents immigrated from) and talk to us about how its important to them. From there we (Students and teacher) created movements and shapes that represented the special item. |
